The Hope was purchased by Major MacIntosh and was refitted in London in 1821 for the journey to Tasmania and carried Major Hugh MacIntosh and Peter Degraves (the founder of Cascades) to Hobart in 1824.
After its wrecking the Hope spawned one of Tasmania‘s great treasure stories. The loss of the Hobart Garrison‘s quarterly pay chest. About three thousand pounds in coins.
This talk will give some background on the ship and investigate the treasure legend
An extended long weekend cruise around to Cygnet to view the regatta.
The spectacle of colours, shapes and sizes will abound!
Check on this later to see the updates to what/how/when and why.
Marion Stoneman shall again regale Women on Boats with tales of her lifestyle and adventures on Moonbird. Since her last presentation, the moonbirds have sailed around the top of Brazil to French Guiana and Suriname, then north to Tobago, Trinidad, Grenada and St Vincents and the Grenadines. We look forward to hear and seeing more of their adventures!
After joining in the Clean Up Australia event on Saturday, take a week away heading out on Sunday, to the south and spending time at the bottom of Tasmania. The weather will dictate where we go and hopefully there will be time for walks, perhaps to South Cape Bay, or The Whale being a bit closer. Great Taylors Bay has many anchorages and the chance to walk around the Labillardiere Peninsula. Or to stay onbaord relaxing ! Southport and Deep Hole isn‘t too far away, with more sandy beaches and protected anchorages.
Cruise Contacts are Simon and Mel onboard Kellie Jayde.
The annual chance to do our bit towards cleaning up our environment. In conjunction with the National campaign, join stalwart coordinator Catrina Boon for an afternoon pottering along a foreshore (to be advised) removing ‘stuff‘ that shouldn‘t be there.
Stay overnight and socialise a bit and consider heading south tomorrow with the cruise to Recherche and surrounds.
