The evening has always been a favourite with members, along with our hosts at Tas Maritime. A good opportunity to put a face to the voices we hear while cruising.

In 2023 member Dorothy Darden and her granddaughter joined a cruise aboard the schooner MAPLE LEAF for two exciting weeks in the islands of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Haida Gwaii, considered the “Galapagos of the north”.

Dorothy and her late husband, Steve received CYCT cruising plaques for their travels around the Pacific, aboard their catamaran, ADAGIO. They had attempted without success, to tour the Queen Charlotte Islands in Canada previously.

The iron Pot Lighthouse, or more formally the Derwent Light has been part of the Port of Hobart for 192 years, the oldest existing lighthouse tower in Australia. Suzanne Smythe, director and researcher at UTAS in Tasmanian Maritime History. She published, "History of the Iron Pot" in 2013. She gave a personal and engaging description of her extensive studies of the Iron Pot's history.

Club member, Jonathan Ross helped commission a new Privilege 510 catamaran in Les Sables d'Olonne. He presented his trials and tribulations of preparing a new boat for it's first ocean passage. This involved 3,500 Nm to Montenegro, crossing the Bay of Biscay with a green crew, dodging Orcas, stops in the Baleric Islands, Sardinia, Sicily and Croatia. On board were 3 Californian’s including the owner.

Meeting on site at TAS Maritime Radio, who provide a very unique service for Tasmanian waters. It monitors VHF and HF distress channels and frequencies between 0700 and 1900 daily and broadcasts skeds containing coastal weather and maritime safety information 7 days of the week, every day of the year. Hear from staff on their operation and listen in on the 17.33 sked.
