The Hope was purchased by Major MacIntosh and was refitted in London in 1821 for the journey to Tasmania and carried Major Hugh MacIntosh and Peter Degraves (the founder of Cascades) to Hobart in 1824.
After its wrecking the Hope spawned one of Tasmania's great treasure stories. The loss of the Hobart Garrison's quarterly pay chest. About three thousand pounds in coins.
This talk will give some background on the ship and investigate the treasure legend
