The VDL Circumnavigation is a fantastic conduit to visiting the Mermaid and catching a cray. It also takes you deep into the SW Wilderness, where you can live a simpler life for just a time. And it’s there for all of us.

Forum hosted by Bastian Seidel, along with a small panel of members who have sold and purchased boats discussing the requirements for an easy transaction.
The second of our 2026 Winter Forums will be held on Thursday 16 July, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, and this time the forum takes the form of a panel discussion.
Selling a boat is rarely just a transaction. For many of us a yacht represents years of memories, careful maintenance and no small amount of emotional investment — which can make both the decision to sell and the process that follows more daunting than expected. To help members work through it, we‘ve brought together a panel who have been through it themselves: Dinah Jones, Shona and Richard Taylor, and David Bowker, with the discussion moderated by Committee Member Bastian Seidel.
Together they‘ll share what they‘ve learned — how to present and prepare your boat to achieve the best result, the practical steps from first thought through to final handover, and how to manage the personal side of moving on. We‘ll cover preparing and presenting the boat, getting your paperwork and survey in order, pricing and the choice between brokerage and private sale, and managing inspections and sea trials — and, just as importantly, preparing yourself for the change.
Whether you‘re actively getting ready to sell, weighing up the idea, or simply want to be prepared when the time comes, there‘ll be plenty of practical advice and honest reflection on offer. Please come along with your questions — there will be ample time for discussion.
We look forward to seeing many CYCT members on 16 July 2026 - and please don’t forget to register as places are limited.
