Safety Day this year will be focusing on towing and boat handling. Whether rafting up or towing astern, we can get all the fenders, lines, the long tow line with bridle attached, and head out in Barnes Bay then one boat can break down and need a tow, and we work out how to secure the vessel and then manoeuver the tow vessel into a towing position. Depending on the number of boats coming along we could rescue or be rescued a few times. Afterwards a de-brief will be held in the picnic ground in North Simmonds Bay. Sunday morning will be more hands on boat handling, man overboard and anchoring. Cruise Contact Ian Johnston onboard Juliene on 0418 202 957.

Let's get together at the Quarantine Station shed, a short walk from the pontoon, in Quarantine Bay. Planning includes a sunny day, a seafood chowder, with a bread roll, sausage and salad for lunch. Best of all the chance to meet up with new members and old friends alike. Invited new members come along for free, while members are charged $15 per head.

Please bring along nibbles to share for starters. As the planned NW winds will provide for a sheltered night at anchor in Q Bay, expect to spend the evening onboard your boat, or a friend's boat, catching up. As usual registration and payment is through the website, and please use PayPal (rather than a bank deposit or cash on the day) as it speeds up the accounting process significantly for the Treasurer.

A pre-Christmas get together at the Margate home of Alan Braddock and Dinah Jones. Bring along your favourite foods to share as you sit back and relax in the scintillating company of your fellow CYCT companions. Relax in a very comfortable garden or maybe have a walk along the Dave Burrows foreshore track. We expect the weather to be superb but, if not, there is shelter for all.
Al’s beer and Dinah’s cider are there for your pouring pleasure and always worth a try. You are invited to camp for the night but beds in the house are on a first in gets the bed system. Showers and toilets? Yep. Want to anchor off on good holding or pull up on our mooring - phone first for a tide check. Cruise Contact Dinah Jones onboard Trim on 0400 473 248

This cruise is designed for the orphans amongst us, those that have no family ties and wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of the silly season to have a quiet time on the boat. It’s not restricted to orphans only, anyone can join in, at any time. With no schedule planned, we will see what the weather does and what we can get up to. Finding a shaded spot for lunch on the 25th is an idea, or just a get together for drinks in the morning, or catching up in the afternoon.
Based in the Huon Valley, the Huon River and Port Cygnet comes with many smaller bays like Randalls, Sandrock, Surveyors, Gourlays, Surges and Cairns to discover. An often visited part of our cruising grounds but rarely much time spent discovering the charms of such a well sheltered area. Cruise Contact is Mark Stephenson onboard Crown Venture on 0438 854 380

Rather than a mass gathering on the beach or jammed packed drinks on a party boat, enjoy an informal progressive dinner along the attenuator at Oyster Cove Marina. Visit each other’s boats, sharing food and conversation as we progress through the night. Relax with a drink and a chat while trying to stay awake until the midnight hour. Numbers will be limited by availability of berths along the attenuator, so register your interest early. More details will be provided closer to the date. Port Esperance is our traditional base for the Australia Day long weekend, however this year, with the public holiday falling on a Wednesday a plan is hatching to combine with Port Esperance Sailing Club for all or part of a week-long cruise taking in Port Esperance, Southport, Great Taylors and, perhaps, Recherche Bay. Whilst the detail will emerge later in the year, a twilight sail, beach BBQ’s, and perhaps an opportunity to invite an enthusiastic young dinghy sailor or two onboard for a few hours to try their hand in the cockpit and on the helm, are all in the mix. Needless to say, whatever the final itinerary we will be well placed to soak up knockout scenery, great beach walks, a bracing swim, good company and a few fish, oysters, mussels and abalone from the clean and fresh waters of southern Tasmania.

Check the website later this year for an update to this cruise to the beautiful islands in the Furneaux group just north of the Tasmanian mainland. So many islands to explore, beaches to walk, hills to climb and granite boulders to photograph. Not for the faint hearted, you will need a sturdy craft and a similar crew, with strong winds, large tides, swift currents and high seas likely at times. Good ground tackle is essential as holding can be poor. Previous cruises have been very rewarding however crews must be prepared for overnight passages, potential passage in poor conditions and some motoring to achieve these rewards. This is likely to be a 4 week cruise depending on the weather windows. Contact Scott Poulter onboard Gradiva on 0419 513 983 or scottbrian@me.com to show your interest.

Here is the big chance to prove to your loved one what trouble you will go to, to make him or her happy! As Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday, this is more suited for those with an RDO, on holiday or are retired. Find a sheltered spot on the Derwent or in Barnes Bay and woo your loved one under a full moon with a few candles around the cockpit table. You might have to prepare a suitable meal too and ensure appropriate refreshments are always at hand. Not to mention being the happy and loving partner you are. No cruise contact this time, it’s up to you to have a quiet weekend.

For those people who wish to extend their East Coast Cruise, or for those who don’t have the time for both cruises a weeklong sojourn to the tepid waters of Norfolk Bay is just the thing.

Hopefully, weather permitting, we may be able to explore some less commonly used anchorages. In keeping with what has become a tradition in recent years we will be having a themed meal ashore, with the ingredient to be advised closer to the date. It will be kept simple. The East Glass Wine Coast Bay Cruise
This cruise is designed to take in the sights, catch up with new and old friends, take your time and enjoy the hospitalities of club members whilst appreciating some of our iconic east coast bays.
Richard and Shona Taylor’s “Easting Down” will be the Mother ship for this cruise who can double up as your freighter for extra gear or provisions that you may need assistance with.
A two week cruise to a most beautiful part of Tasmania. Easy day trips starting at Connelly’s Marsh or Monk Bay for an evening briefing prior to the next day transiting the Denison Canal. Then to North Bay or Maria Island, progressing to Orford, where we are arranging a special lunch at the Orford Blue Waters Motel to be hosted by club members and proprietors Paul and Caroline Dutton. This will be an easy walk from our moored area of Shelley Beach Prosser Bay. Then onto Schouten Island, Bryans Corner, Passage Beach and Wineglass Bay for two nights if the weather systems allow. We are planning a walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout and a beach get together for lunch where we will be judging a fancy bowtie and party hat competition. Extra marks for home made. Returning southward to suitably selected safe anchorages before transiting the Denison Canal around the 18th of March for an evening wind down in Norfolk Bay, then home.
Magnificent white sandy beaches, granite boulders, clear seas with dolphins regularly under the bow wave. Make sure you go in close to Isle de Phoques and see the seals at play. Amazing sounds (and smells) from a seemingly very happy seal colony based on an island in the middle of Great Oyster Bay. Walk the beaches of Reidle Bay and Shoal Bay, or head to the settlement and the ruins on Maria Island, stock up on stores you left at home while in Orford. All of this plan is subject to weather. Either way we’ll have a good time wherever we go. Cruise Contact is Richard and Shona Taylor onboard Easting Down on 0407441254.
